Private lessons

I believe private lessons are VITAL to the success of the current percussion student in both the public and private school systems. The area of percussion is so large that most school situations, even with a full-time percussion instructor, cannot accomodate all areas adequately during the school hours. This can be especially true at the beginner level, when the learning experience is most important! These foundations need to be strong to build upon for the future success of the student!

Here is an example of what being a "school" percussionist entails.  Most of these areas should be introduced at an early stage (because of the way schools are set up) and then built upon continuously through the school years.

  • Basic Stroke Fundamentals
  • Note and Rhythm Reading
  • Sight Reading- accuracy and speed
  • Drum Rudiments
  • Scales/Mallet Exercises
  • Concert Percussion Techniques- concert bass, snare, tambourine, triangle, cymbals, timpani...the list goes on and on
  • Rudimental Techniques/ Marching Drumline preparation
  • Solo Performances
  • All-District/ All-State etude preparation
  • Percussion Ensemble- concert, pop, novelty, marching, small group
  • Concert Band/ Symphony Orchestra performance
  • Drum Set Basics - possible jazz band performance

In addition to catering to the "school" percussionist, I can also cater lessons to more specific needs- including drum corps audition prep., high school drumline audition prep., solo performance/ All-State prep., and drum set.

In addition to teaching students at their school district, I also teach lessons from my home studio-  I currently have multiple snare drums, drum sets, drum pads, timpani, and a 5 octave Adams marimba which are all used for teaching.
